That’s the best I could come up with.

If you looked at the photos in this post you saw now the lower cheeks of the helmet went weird with the strange lines. Not satisfied with that I stripped and sanded the cheeks and layered in more silver, grey and dark green:

After masking the helmet a lot of the red and blue came off so I spent some time hand-painting them and some other minor touch-up work. Here is how it looks now:

This also gave me a chance to touch up on some of the bleed you can see on the upper cheeks. This is now it looks now (sorry for the low light):
