Getting ready for GalaxyCon!
Though it was not perfect I took the suit to GalaxyCon Raleigh in July 2022. And I sweat out a good 10 pounds with that thing on.
About a week prior I went to a wig shop and purchased 72-inch braiding hair to make Wookie braids. I then taught myself to braid. By the end of the first one I was a pro. I used very thin wire to make the wraps holding them together. There was extra hair everywhere. Also, I could not find a straight, silver braid so I decided to try my hand at braiding a wiry silver. It did not turn out well. It looks like I lopped a tail off of some kind of Pokemon or electrified squirrel.
Here are the photos taken right before leaving. This is with all of the original Etsy stuff (and wrong spats, wrong pouches, wrong girth belt, I know). But with the new codpiece!
There were some GREAT costumes at GalaxyCon Raleigh. First, a few of them:
And a few of me in costume and what made it totally worthwhile:
In the last photo above I was exhausted. I sat down in the chair just to get some relief because the jetpack would fit in it. As soon as I sat down this guy came up to me and said, “you’re my favorite character” to which I responded, “you’re my favorite fan.” He smiled really big and asked if he could put his arm around me and get a photo (as you can see he did). After his parents got the photo he asked, “how did you escape the Sarlacc” to which I responded,”lots of determination… and a lot of fire.” It made my entire experience.
